Lewis Carroll, from our hometown of Oxford, wrote in his poem The Hunting of the Snark:
‘I have said it thrice:
What I tell you three times is true.’
Julius Caesar declared ‘I came, I saw, I conquered’, while Tony Blair opted simply for ‘education, education, education’. In terms of expressing a message effectively, the number three can be quite profound.
The Rule of Three is a complex, and at times ambiguous, rhetorical device. Aristotle went some way to describing its importance in relation to public speaking and persuasive writing, but the number three has retained a host of magical and mystical associations through the ages.
All trained orators and writers learn early on that the Rule of Three – iterating something in three successive ways – is a powerful way to influence, persuade and inform.
At Rule of Three we use this potent rhetorical device, alongside a range of proven communication techniques, to capture audiences’ attention, relay information, and deliver messages that really work.
It’s one thing for someone to hear; it is another for them to listen. And at Rule of Three we craft words that make people listen, remember and act. As a rhetorical device, the Rule of Three is powerful. As a team of trained, qualified and experienced wordsmiths, Rule of Three will powerfully, persuasively and practically get the right people to listen to you.
